At CyberGRX, I redesigned the platform’s UI, transitioning it to Material UI (MUI), which accelerated product delivery by 60%. I also developed a new design system, data visualizations, and led cross-functional collaboration to improve user workflows and enhance cybersecurity risk analysis.
At CyberGRX, I served as the User Interface Designer on a small but dynamic team, working alongside a User Experience Director, a developer, and an intern. We aimed to overhaul the platform to improve user experience and streamline how risk analysts assess the cybersecurity risks of third parties. The goal was to enhance data clarity, reduce friction in risk assessments, and maximize the value provided by the platform’s predictive analytics.
CyberGRX’s platform connects risk analysts with third-party businesses, allowing them to assess the cybersecurity risks without having to send multiple assessments manually. While the platform delivered tremendous value through its predictive data and risk analysis capabilities, it also had some notable user pain points:
Our primary users worked on desktop and needed efficient ways to export and manipulate data to make faster, more informed cybersecurity decisions. With this in mind, we embarked on a complete platform redesign, rethinking every aspect of the user experience.
As the User Interface Designer, I was responsible for:
Our redesign efforts focused on enhancing the platform’s usability, ensuring it was both visually appealing and functionally robust.
One of the most impactful changes was transitioning to Material UI. This decision drastically improved design consistency, responsiveness, and scalability across different devices. By building a flexible design system, we enabled faster prototyping and reduced the handoff time between design and development.
I spearheaded the development of a UI Kit and Data Visualization components, ensuring that our users could easily interpret complex cybersecurity data. This involved creating intuitive dashboards and report generation tools that made it easier for analysts to assess and share insights with stakeholders.
Given the small size of our team, efficient communication was key. I worked closely with multiple developer pods, interns, and cross-functional teams, facilitating seamless handoffs and ensuring that design decisions aligned with technical constraints. The use of Notion for documentation helped bridge any gaps, making the design process transparent and well-documented.
My work at CyberGRX involved redesigning a complex platform with a focus on improving both the user interface and the product delivery process. By creating a robust design system, enhancing data visualization, and fostering cross-functional collaboration, we were able to deliver a more efficient, user-friendly platform that continues to provide significant value to risk analysts and their third-party partners.
